Vincent Kompany is in danger of missing his own testimonial match at Man City after hobbling off injured in Anderlecht’s defeat to Genk on Friday evening.
The veteran defender has had a disastrous start to life as player/manager of his hometown club, having picked up just two points out of a possible 15 so far in the Jupiler Pro League.
The former City skipper even relinquished his managerial duties on matchdays earlier this week, with assistant coach Simon Davies taking over.
And things have gone bad to worse as Kompany limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring problem in the 75th minute of his side’s defeat against Genk.
The Belgian is now a doubt for his own September testimonial, in which a City Legends team go head-to-head with a Premier League All-Stars XI.
The match is scheduled for September 11, with Kompany also due to play for Belgium against San Marino and Scotland during the same international break.
Despite his struggles at Anderlecht, Kompany remains defiant.
“We don’t believe the hype, we don’t believe the drama,” Kompany wrote on his Instragram. “We believe in the process.
“We continuously produce good football, with a very (!) young but talented squad. However, no results, so no excuses. Now there’s nothing else to do but work even harder.
“A win will follow. More motivated than ever, to help this team and beautiful club achieve, whilst never compromising our values.”
