LOS ANGELES, CA — A UCLA student, who was shot with a BB gun, may have been the victim of a hate crime, according to campus police.
The suspects pulled up alongside the student and shot him just below the eye while shouting a homophobic slur at him early Sunday morning, according to a statement by the UCLA Police Department. The UCLA Police Department is investigating the attack as a hate crime and asked the public to help identify the suspects.
The attack happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of De Neve Drive, near Rieber Hall, UCLA Police Department interim Chief John Thomas said in a written release. The victim was walking down the street when he was approached by a white four-door sedan, and a male backseat passenger shouted at him and shot him with a BB Gun, according to police.

The victim sustained a minor abrasion, Thomas added. In addition to the shooter, police are also looking for the driver who was described as a male wearing a black ski mask, Thomas said.
