Tottenham release statement confirming Giovani Lo Celso will be out of action until end of October

Tottenham’s summer signing Giovani Lo Celso has been ruled out of action until the end of October.

Lo Celso, who is yet to start for the north London side following his summer move from Real Betis, suffered a groin injury during Argentina’s draw with Chile on Thursday.

While the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder initially stated that the injury he sustained was ‘not something to worry about’, tests have shown that it is worse than first feared.

Mauricio Pochettino had been slowly introducing the 23-year-old to Premier League football with substitute appearances in Spurs’ past three games, but he is now unlikely to make his full debut until at least November.

“Giovani Lo Celso has returned early to Hotspur Way after being withdrawn from the Argentina squad due to a hip injury,” read a statement from the club.

“The attacking midfielder sustained the injury during his national team’s match against Chile. He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation and is expected to return to training with the first team towards the end of October.”

Lo Celso is not the first of Spurs‘ summer signings to be sidelined through injury.

Ryan Sessegnon, who joined Tottenham on transfer deadline day from Fulham, is yet to feature for the 2018/19 Champions League runner-ups due to a hamstring injury.

Former Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has also missed Spurs’ past two matches after suffering a knock to his thigh. This came after the Frenchman started his Spurs career with a goal on his debut against Aston Villa.

Pochettino will be hoping his injury concerns are eased with the returns of both Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth following the international break.
