BERKELEY, NJ — A small tax increase is in store for Berkeley residents with the adoption of the $61.45 million budget.
“It wasn’t an easy budget to tie together,” Mayor John Bacchione said at the June 24 public hearing, but he noted that it keeps all existing services in tact.
“It will not compromise any of the services Berkeley Township provides such as police, fire, the volunteers, rescue services, our sanitation department, public works,” Bacchione said.

The budget, up $5 million from the 2023 budget, comes with a 3.47 cent tax increase.
In her presentation, CFO Christine Manolio said that operating expenses like pensions and insurances were uncontrollable increases. Those expenses along with salaries and wages make up the largest percentages of the budget.
