When Pakistan took the field vs Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup, nobody expected it to be a tight game and nobody certainly expected Zimbabwe to come out on top. But both those things happened. Chasing a target of 131, Pakistan finished with 129/8. Zimbabwe won by 1 run, taking their tally to 3 points from 2 games as a result of a rained-off match vs South Africa. Pakistan lost their 2nd straight encounter having gone down to India in a thriller previously.
Speaking of India, the Men in Blue will feel elated at the fact Pakistan are still winless. No, we are not talking of any jingoism here, just the fact. India beat Netherlands to make it 2 in 2 and secure their full 4 points to top the group. They are followed by South Africa and Zimbabwe. Pakistan are languishing in fifth position.

One more win virtually takes India into the semis. 2 more wins seal the deal and more or else ensure we top the group. Earlier it was South Africa’s no-result and now it is Pakistan’s loss, both have boosted Rohit Sharma’s men’s chances of making it into the semis.
Pakistan on the other hand need to win all their remaining 3 games and it may still come down to stuff like NRR and dependability on other results. Pretty much the situation India found themselves in last year having lost their 1st 2 games to Pakistan and New Zealand.
Come 2022, the situation is different. Of course, in just over a week, we shall know who is making it to the next round. India may seal the deal before that and Pakistan may stretch it as long as possible.
