TRUMBULL, CT — As construction continues on the Red Garage at the Trumbull Mall, management and town officials announced Tuesday a large area of the lower level Target parking deck is now open.
According to the town website, a portion of the parking deck opened this week for customers to use “before the busy back-to-school season.”
While construction is still underway, officials also teased the entire lower level will soon be open.

Construction on the parking garage next to Target at the mall began back in May 2023. At that time, town officials said work on the garage would continue for a 12-18 month period, during which construction would occur in phases.
Director of Economic and Community Development Rina Bakalar said Wednesday the project has been “a massive but necessary undertaking in excess of $11 [million] of work” to replace approximately 75 percent of the garage.

“The work has progressed according to plan with the help of our building and fire marshal departments in collaboration with the Trumbull Mall management and construction engineering contractor,” Bakalar said to Patch. “The opening of a large section of the lower level is important for back to school shopping and for all tenants and shoppers to the mall.”
Bakalar said the entire garage is expected to reopen this fall.
“We appreciate the patience of shoppers and tenants,” Bakalar said. “We are dealing with old buildings and structures which require maintenance and investment.”
