Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will earn ‘as much as Mesut Ozil’ as Arsenal prepare bonus-filled new deal

Arsenal are set to reward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a new deal which could see him earn as much as Mesut Ozil.

However, the deal depends on the Gabon international firing the Gunners back into the Champions League.

Head of Football Raul Sanllehi was praised by fans this summer for landing Nicolas Pepe, Dani Ceballos, Kieran Tiernay and David Luiz this summer and is leading the negotiations for Aubameyang’s new contract.

Head coach Unai Emery last week revealed negotiations were underway for the new deal, with optimism from both sides that a deal can be reached.

According to The Telegraph, Aubameyang is likely to receive a contract based on incentives, giving the 30-year-old the chance to earn as much as Mesut Ozil.

The club cannot afford to give out a fixed contract which will meet Ozil’s £350,000-a-week. Aubameyang currently earns around £200,000-a-week, including bonuses, and this current deal expires in 2021.

Arsenal need a top-four finish this season after finishing outside of the Champions League places by a point last season and losing to Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Aubameyang is said to have been buoyed by Arsenal’s transfer business, with Emery himself reassuring the striker about his position in the side after Pepe’s arrival.

The Gunners coughed up a then club record £56 million to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 and he has scored 43 goals in 67 games.
