A study that examined 763 adolescents in five schools of Hyderabad aged between 13 and 16 years of age revealed that an alarming 402 lack the requisite amount of weight that would put them under the ‘healthy’ category. The study was released in May by the Indian Journal of Public Health Research & Development.
Despite the state government’s rigorous efforts at implementing welfare schemes in schools including the mid-day meal programme, it was found out that government schools had more students with a body mass index lower than 18.5 than private means.
