Mercedes Mone's NJPW in-ring debut ranks high among her list of career accomplishments.
While speaking with TMZ Sports, the former Sasha Banks said her IWGP Women's Championship win is probably her second favorite moment of her career thus far. Mone won the title from Kairi at NJPW Battle in the Valley last month.
"That day was so insane. But for it to be in San Jose, just an hour and a half away from where I was born in Fairfield, California," Mone said. "I had my friends and my family there. Legit — my blood family and my family in wrestling was there to support me. It was a moment that I'm always going to remember. It's probably my second favorite moment of my career thus far and that's saying a lot because I've done so much in professional wrestling. But that day was so incredible."
Mone credited Kairi for being an amazing partner in the ring.
Before Battle in the Valley, the Daily Mail asked Mone about the three matches that have meant the most to her in her career.
“The first has to be me vs. Bayley at NXT TakeOver," Mone said. "My career cannot be outdone! I really loved myself vs. Alexa Bliss in Abu Dhabi, that meant so much to me. Then I would have [to] say myself vs. Bayley at Hell in a Cell during the pandemic, I still see clips of that match and I can't believe we had such an incredible match without fans.”
Mone also main evented WrestleMania 37 night one with Bianca Belair in 2021. Mone and Belair won an ESPY Award that year for becoming the first Black women to headline WrestleMania,
Mone is scheduled to wrestle for NJPW at Sakura Genesis on Saturday, April 8 and for Stardom at the Yokohama Arena on Sunday, April 23. Dave Meltzer has reported that AZM and Mayu Iwatani are planned to be Mone's opponents at those shows.
