Liverpool ask FIFA to look into concerns Bobby Adekanye was tapped up by Lazio

Liverpool have asked FIFA to investigate concerns that Bobby Adekanye was tapped up by Serie A side Lazio.

The 20-year-old officially joined the Italian club this week after his contract at Anfield expired.

Liverpool pocketed just £240k in compensation following the youngster’s move to the Serie A club.

In December, Adekanye rejected a contract extension from the club and was reportedly in advanced talks with Lazio, despite FIFA rules which states players under the age of 23 are not allowing to hold talks with other clubs.

Lazio then released a statement on their official website denying that they had been involved in any discussions about signing him.

However, Anfield chiefs are concerned Adekanye was approached while he was still on their books and have asked FIFA to investigate the circumstances surrounding the transfer.

Adekanye, who plays as a right-winger, was unable to force his way into Jurgen Klopp ‘s plans following his arrival from Barcelona in the summer of 2015.

He showed glimpses of quality for Neil Critchley’s Under-23s and scored some superb goals at youth level but has struggled to maintain consistency at academy level.
