NIGEL CAROLAN’S UNDER 20s showed off their license to thrill in the final quarter of today’s World Rugby under 20 championship comeback win over Wales.
Having clawed their way back from 17 points down to lead by a slender point, it would have been easy to slow the game down and simply try to force a penalty and widen the lead slightly.
Instead, they dared to take much more from their trip to the 22. Max Deegan set the tone with a back-handed offload that Greg Jones just made it in time to scoop. Captain James Ryan has shown his soft hands plenty of times before and Adam McBurney’s footwork to pop the ball off to Conor O’Brien have the centre the second he needed to spin a long pass wide to Jacob Stockdale.

Wales, with Grand Slam experience in their back pocket looked set to cruise away from Ireland in the first half with three tries, two of them brilliant.
The Keelan Giles finish came off a pin-point cross-field kick from Dan Jones. And the out-half was integral again when he put his half-back partner Reuben Morgan-Williams into space.
