Fairfield Election Results 2023: Vote Totals; Recount Called

FAIRFIELD, CT — The votes have all been counted in Fairfield, but for two races, they will have to be counted again, according to Town Clerk Betsy Browne.

Though Democrat Bill Gerber declared victory Wednesday in the race for First Selectman, that is one of the contests for which votes will be recounted, because the margin of victory was so small.

According to the Secretary of State’s office, Gerber garnered 8,965 votes on Tuesday, or 43 more votes than incumbent Republican First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, who received 8,922.

In addition to the First Selectman’s race, a recount will also be held for the District 2 contest for the Representative Town Meeting, which had eight candidates for four seats. The candidate with the most votes is Christopher Shea with 706, the candidate with the fewest votes is Amir Nasir with 621.

Also, a recount has been called for the race for Constable, in which eight candidates vied for four seats.

“The recanvass will review the machine vote, absentee vote and write-in ballots for this office, and no others,” Browne wrote in a letter to the Registrars of Voters office, referring individually to the three races. “You must set the time and place of the recanvass, but it must be held not later than the fifth business day after the election.”

The date and place had not been established as of late Wednesday afternoon.
