EAST GRANBY, CT — A paraprofessional at East Granby High School charged last week by Enfield police with possessing child pornography is no longer employed by East Granby Public Schools, according to documents received by Patch via a Freedom of Information Act request.
Jason Hurrle, 29, of Enfield, was charged with first-degree possession of child sex abuse materials upon execution of a search-and-seizure warrant by Enfield police, assisted by members of the Homeland Security Investigations Division, on Dec. 4. Bond was originally set at $500,000, but judicial records indicate it was reduced to $150,000 at his arraignment, and he was released from custody.

He is due to return to court Dec. 19, according to judicial records.

The documents obtained from East Granby Public Schools show Hurrle was hired Aug. 27, 2024 to work as a special education paraprofessional at the high school. The non-certified Step 2 position paid an hourly rate of $18.19 for a 31.25 hour work week.
Less than two hours after Hurrle’s arrest, he received an email from Superintendent of Schools Melissa Bavaro-Grande, informing him, “effective immediately you are being placed on paid administrative leave until further notice pending the outcome of an investigation relating to your employment.”

During the investigation, Hurrle was also barred from school grounds, denied access to his school district email account and prohibited from contact with any East Granby students, parents or guardians.
That same evening, Bavaro-Grande sent a note to the school community via the district’s messenger system, informing them of Hurrle’s arrest and the actions taken by school officials. She wrote, “We have not received any information that the situation involves East Granby students. Nevertheless, this news in unsettling, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students, families, and community is our top priority.”
A final email concerning Hurrle, dated Dec. 11 and directed to payroll/HR specialist Suzanne Wolf-Chester and executive administrative assistant Lisa Kline, simply states, “No longer employed with EGPS as of the end of day on 12/10/2024.”
