WEST HARTFORD, CT — A prominent West Hartford club vowed to rebuild after a fire destroyed its clubhouse in April.
And, recently submitted documents to the West Hartford Plan & Zoning Commission show the Wampanoag Country Club is ready to do just that.
The PZC was expected to formally receive the site plan application for a new clubhouse at the Sept. 4 regular meeting at West Hartford Town Hall.

A likely public hearing and decision will be rendered at the PZC’s next meeting on Oct. 7 at the town hall. The PZC usually meets at 7 p.m.
Back in April, when an inferno torched the main clubhouse at 60 Wampanoag Road, it seemed unlikely such plans could be done so quickly.

But efforts to rebuild started immediately after the fire, which took place the weekend of April 20-21.
The West Hartford Fire Department said the blaze was not intentionally set, but its investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing. No one was injured in the fire.
As for the new clubhouse, plans submitted to the town call for a 32,650-foot building with associated landscaping to replace the one that burned down.
The club is also seeking approval for a sturdy, 30-foot-by-75-foot tent to help with club operations while the new building is being constructed.
The project narrative submitted to the town by the club states the new building will include several amenities as well.
According to Wampanoag, amenities will include parking lots, a driving range, a cart “barn,” putting green, outdoor seating, a swimming pool, and a pool house.
Plans, Wampanoag states, call for the clubhouse to fit in with the type of residential homes in that area.
“The proposed exterior design of the building draws inspiration from traditional New England materials and forms, which are in harmony with the context and the residential homes found in the vicinity of the golf course,” wrote Wampanoag.
