Carabao Cup holders Manchester City will have to beat rivals Manchester United in the semi-finals if they want to regain their trophy in 2020.
After defeating Oxford United 3-1 at Kassam Stadium on Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola’s side were paired against their city rivals in the last four.
United beat Colchester United at home on the same night to advance, courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
City will have a chance to exact their revenge on United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side defeated the Premier League champions earlier this month at the Etihad in a 2-1 win which few fans saw coming.
Leicester City will take on Aston Villa in the other semi-final, with the ties to be played over two legs in the weeks commencing January 6 and 27.
Brendan Rodgers’ side edged past Everton on penalties in their quarter-final on Wednesday, 24 hours after Villa had thumped Liverpool’s Under-23s 5-0.
On drawing rivals City in the last four, United boss Solskjaer said: “We always want to win trophies and we want to win games.
“We’ve got a nice little draw coming up so it’ll be exciting times coming up.
