Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho would only consider Liverpool loan after rejecting move to Tottenham

Philippe Coutinho would only leave Barcelona today if he was offered a loan move to former club Liverpool, talkSPORT understands.

Yesterday we revealed the Brazilian rejected the chance to join Tottenham on loan, instead deciding to stay and fight for his place at the Nou Camp.

Liverpool more likely to sign Philippe Coutinho than Manchester United

But while Coutinho will not be joining Spurs, the door remains open for a possible return to Anfield on deadline day.

The 27-year-old has not lived up to expectation in Spain since joining from Liverpool in January 2018 for £142million.

Barcelona remain open to letting him leave on loan and would even be willing to sell him for the right price.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ruled out re-signing Coutinho earlier this summer, because the club could not meet Barcelona’s asking price.

However, the Reds would not have to fork out an extortionate fee to land their former midfielder on loan.

But time is running out, with the Premier League transfer window slamming shut at 5pm on Thursday.

Coutinho joined Liverpool from Inter in 2013 for a bargain £8.5m, and in 201 games scored 54 goals.

Klopp told ESPN FC during the club’s pre-season trip to New York: “In general, Phil Coutinho helps each team in the world, still – 100 per cent.”
