Ever since the worst civil unrest in a decade hit France after men clad in ‘yellow vests’ protested against hike in fuel prices under Macron’s rule, the protests have entered their 19th weekend. Military units have been deployed for the first time to back up police in Paris, however the unrest did not match the scale of last Saturday when shops along the Champs Elysees avenue were looted and vandalized.

Police fired tear gas shells at demonstrators in Paris following which clashes broke out in Paris. Though, the protests were mostly peaceful, some bins were set on fire. However, later in the afternoon, the police fired tear gas on protesters near Boulevard de Strasbourg.

The ‘Yellow Vest’ movement erupted on social media in November last year when the French citizens said that an increase in fuel taxes was driving the prices to such a high level, one that hasn’t been witnessed since the early 2000s.
