Alfredo Morelos future: Steven Gerrard ‘100 per cent sure’ that Rangers striker is ‘not going anywhere’ in January

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is adamant that in-form Alfredo Morelos will not be leaving the club in January.

The Colombia international scored a brace in the 3-0 Betfred Cup semi-final win over Hearts, taking his tally for the season to 20 goals already.

The 23-year-old recently hinted to a radio station in his homeland that he was ready to leave the Gers when the winter transfer window opens in order to compete in a ‘much better and more competitive league’.

He has also previously spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League, but a defiant Gerrard says that will not be happening in the immediate future.

Speaking after booking his first cup final appearance as a manager, the former Liverpool midfielder told BT Sport: “I’m 100 per cent sure he is not going anywhere.”

Morelos has notched six goals in his last five games and his boss wants to see that hot streak continue.

“I think as far as I’m concerned and Alfredo’s concerned, we just need to work towards 21,” he said in the post-match press conference.

“I’m sure secretly he will have his own targets which I know all forwards do.He’s in great form, he’s smiling and he’s happy and he’s producing for his team.

“He’s contributing heavily and that’s the reason we are so happy to have him.”
