French central midfielder and Lyon man Gueïda Fofana has been forced to retire from professional football at the age of 25, following an ankle injury that doctors have decided he will never be able to adequately recover from.
“I allowed for some time to see if my ankle would get better. I really have tried everything but today I sadly have to admit that it is no longer possible. The state that my ankle is in no longer allows me to play football… It is a terrible reality but I have been declared inapt to play football.”
