Tregonning proud of ‘incredible’ comeback as Wallaroos sweat on Parry, McKenzie

Wallaroos coach Jay Tregonning has expressed pride at his squad's fight as they count the costs of a brutal comeback victory over Scotland. The Wallaroos looked on the verge of near-elimination, trailing 12-0 at the break before fighting back to score two converted tries to secure the win.It breaks a seven-game losing streak, twice dropping games to Japan and USA in similar positions, with Tregonning's 'whatever it takes' mantra put into practice.“Resilience, grit, we had a whatever it takes theme and they showed it this week,” Tregonning told Rugby.com.au after the match.“I was saying to the girls after the game we worked hard and obviously not good for my health and heart but in regards to the resilience and that attitude, it was outstanding.“Scotland’s forward pack were pretty immense, they got on top of us in the maul but we got on top of them in the scrums and the starters and finishes did some good work keeping us in the game with some nice penalties but also the ball carrying.”The Wallaroos will be out to claim a top-two finish as they prepare for Wales on Saturday in Whangarei. The Welsh went down 56-12 to the Black Ferns, pushing them down to third in Pool A on points difference behind the Wallaroos. However, the Wallaroos will be hoping Shannon Parry (foot) and Arabella McKenzie (knee) will be right to go after being hampered with injuries during the victory. The Wallaroos skipper picked up the knock during their brutal 'Test match Tuesday' sessions, with the injury likely to be managed throughout the tournament.“She did it on Tuesday, in terms of recovery we got here through the week, she didn’t train Thursday but got out there Friday training comfortably enough to be right to play,” assistant coach Scott Fava said on Sunday.“You’re talking about a soft tissue injury so who knows how it’ll recover yet so she’s putting in the work to recover and we’ll see how she goes Monday/Tuesday into seeing whether she’ll be right to go for the Wales Test."Meanwhile, McKenzie's knock left her in agony, however, the playmaker managed to finish the game and earned the game-sealing turnover.“It was new strapping on the new side so we’ll get the medical guys to assess that and see how we are,” Tregonning said on McKenzie.“She’s a country girl, tough as not much more can be said. She’s got that real grit about her and the way she presents herself is outstanding. She's tough.“She looked pretty good last night. She finished out the game which is great so during the week I suspect she’ll recover well and be in a good position. From that viewpoint, whenever someone finishes the game, there’s a good mindset they’ll be right for next week but we need to consult with the medical staff," Fava added.Click Here: New Zealand All Blacks Jerseys
