CALABASAS, CA — Authorities on Sunday recovered the body of a 30-year-old man from the Rock Pool at Malibu Creek State Park, a popular swimming hole known for its dangerous cliff jumping.
State Parks Peace Officers heard reports of a possible drowning at the Rock Pool at around 5:15 p.m. Sunday. The officers, along with crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department, responded to the area and recovered the man’s body about 35 minutes later, according to State Parks public information officer Jorge Moreno.
First responders unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate the man, Moreno said.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity nor more information about the nature of his death.
The Rock Pool is located about a mile west from the park’s main-entrance parking lot. The popular swimming hole is surrounded by tall cliffs that pose a danger to would-be jumpers; rocks are scattered throughout the pool at varying depths.

Jumpers are frequently injured: Earlier this month a woman suffered an open-foot fracture after cliff jumping into the Rock Pool, according to Malibu Search and Rescue.
