Former Angers manager Gérald Baticle (53) will press charges against the Anjou club following his dismissal for “gross misconduct”, the coach has told L’Equipe.
Baticle, a former assistant manager at Olympique Lyonnais for ten years, was named Angers’ manager in 2021. His first stint as a senior head coach for a professional football club saw him steer Les Scoïstes clear from relegation with a fourteenth-place finish. But things went downhill the following season as losses kept building up. Baticle was dismissed after a seventh straight defeat when Ligue 1 halted for the World Cup.
“The president (Saïd Chabane) said he wanted to see me, claims Baticle. I came to Paris to meet him, we had lunch. And then, he said to me that, with this meeting, he began proceedings for my dismissal. I honestly thought it was a work meeting.” Baticle was then officially dismissed for serious misconduct. The former Angers’ manager contests the failings the bottom-placed club reproach of him him, calling them false and fallacious. He will press charges against Angers, stating that his lawyer will take up the matter with Les Prud’hommes, France’s labour court.
Baticle was prevented from saying his goodbyes to his players face-to-face. Angers’ training academy director Abdel Bouhazama was named then manager. Le SCO lost their four games with Bouhazama at the helm and are now on a 11-match losing streak. Bottom-placed Angers are now seven points away from safety – but they only gained eight during this nightmare of a season.
