Another Ireland international joins Leinster’s lengthening injury list

LUKE FITZGERALD HAS joined Marty Moore and Sean Cronin in having his season prematurely ended by shoulder surgery Leinster revealed yesterday.

Fitzgerald, who has a long history of injuries, has fought back this season to regain his place in the both the Leinster and Ireland set-up — starting the Six Nations finale with Scotland earlier this year — underwent surgery to repair a tear in the labrum in his shoulder at the weekend.

While the 27-year old will definitely miss the final two games of Leinster’s season, forwards coach Leo Cullen told reporters yesterday he did not believe it was an issue that would put Fitzgerald in danger of missing the World Cup this autumn.

“[He] has had an issue with his shoulder and that is being repaired as well. Basically it’s a repair to his labrum; he suffered a bit of damage there. He only got it done at the weekend so it’s a bit early to say.
