Tottenham are ‘not a happy camp’ and squad ‘uncertainty’ is damaging the club, Tony Cascarino tells talkSPORT

Tony Cascarino believes there is an air of ‘uncertainty’ at Tottenham at the moment which is damaging the club.

Spurs have endured a mixed bag of results to start the season, with a win, draw and loss from their opening three Premier League games, but their performances have not been convincing.

Pochettino’s men suffered a surprise defeat at home to Newcastle on Sunday, as record-signing Joelinton’s first goal earned the Magpies a 1-0 victory and their first points of the campaign.

The hosts recorded 80 per cent possession at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but were lacking in creativity with star playmaker Christian Eriksen starting the game on the bench.

And the Argentine boss admitted following the game he is unsure if Eriksen, who came on in the second half, has played his final game for the club amid links with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The boss also conceded his Spurs squad is the ‘most unsettled’ it has ever been in his five years in charge, with the futures of a number of other first-team players also uncertain.

And speaking about the Eriksen’s transfer situation, Cascarino said a clear decision has to be made on the Dane’s future sooner rather than later.

“I think [Spurs] have got two choices. If you actually feel he’s not going to be part of Tottenham’s future, you’ll get him out of the squad and you don’t have him on the bench and changing games,” the former Chelsea forward told talkSPORT.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty with a lot of players at Spurs. You’ve touched on [Jan] Vertonghen and if you asked any Spurs fan who they believed was their best defender, they would say Vertonghen.

“There’s Kyle Walker-Peters at right back – uncertainty as he’s just got into the team. Hopefully he’ll be a really good player for Spurs.

“Then you look at [Harry] Winks in midfield and I think he’s still got a long way to go.

“And you look at Danny Rose, Eriksen, Vertonghen – even Lucas Moura, who’s starting games and not doing so good but comes on much better.

“I’ve got a real sense that something personal is going on within the squad with Pochettino at the moment.

“Spurs have achieved a hell of a lot from where they were and where they are today under Pochettino.

“But there’s certain things I’m seeing and I’m not convinced it’s a happy camp there at the moment.”
