Paul Pogba sparked fresh speculation over his immediate future at Manchester United after starring in the Red Devils’ stunning victory over Chelsea in their Premier League opener.
The Frenchman was expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with Real Madrid and former club Juventus both interested, having admitted he was interested in a new challenge.
It appears he may be staying, at least until the window reopens in January, as United failed to sign a replacement midfielder before the summer transfer window shut last week.
But Pogba, who got two assists in the 4-0 win over Chelsea including a brilliant long-range pass to set-up Marcus Rashford, admitted after the game there are still doubts about his future.
Speaking to French radio station RMC Sport, he said ‘only time will tell’ whether or not he will stay at United.
“I always feel good when I play football. I do the things I like, plus it’s my job. I give my all every time I go out on the pitch,” he said.
“I’m aware that things have been said. Only time will tell. There’s always that question mark.
“I’m at Manchester. I have fun with my team-mates, I always want to win matches and I always give my best when I’m on the pitch.”
Pogba was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid over the summer, with manager Zinedine Zidane reportedly making the midfielder his number one target, but Los Blancos chiefs were not willing to meet United’s £150m price tag.
The Spanish transfer window does not shut until September 2, and Real instead look set to sign Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek, who has reportedly claimed the two clubs are in talks over a transfer.
Meanwhile, reports this weekend claimed Juventus ‘have not given up’ on re-signing the World Cup winner and could launch a big-money bid before the September 2 deadline.
United made a winning start to the new Premier League season, beating Chelsea 4-0 thanks to two goals from Rashford – his first from the penalty spot – Anthony Martial and an emotional debut goal for Welsh winger Daniel James.
