Tottenham news: Serge Aurier ‘injures his hand’ in Ivory Coast dressing room during Africa Cup of Nations win over Mali

Serge Aurier managed to injure himself during Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations win over Mali without even playing.

The Tottenham defender sat out of the last 16 clash as he is still recovering from a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old is believed to have hurt his right hand while banging the table to encourage his team-mates, according to Reuters.

Aurier was seen leaving the stadium with his hand in a splint adding to his existing hamstring injury.

He said after the game: “We got a little heated, because in the game we were not good. I hit the table and there you go.

“At home, when things go wrong, the parents scream at us. It’s the same thing. We had to have no regrets.”

Wilfried Zaha scored the winning goal for the Ivory Coast as they beat Mali 1-0 to make it through to the quarter-finals.

They go on to face Algeria for a place in the semi-finals but it remains to be seen if Aurier will be fit due to his hamstring and now hand problem.

That first injury was picked up earlier in the tournament during Ivory Coast’s 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

Tottenham signed Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for around £26million.

He has suffered a number of injury problems over the last season and was restricted to just 17 appearances in all competitions in the last 12 months.
