Aston Villa confirm £26million permanent signing of Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth

Aston Villa have confirmed the £26million signing of Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings.

The centre-back was loaned to the Midlands club in January and impressed with his solid performances at the back.

Mings was instrumental for Dean Smith’s side as they secured promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in May.

And now Villa have landed the 26-year-old on a permanent basis.

Head Coach Dean Smith said: “We’re really pleased to have Tyrone back at Aston Villa on a permanent basis. I think everybody could see the connection that he made with the club as a whole and it is excellent news that we can continue the relationship in the Premier League.

“He will be an integral part of the squad for the new season and I look forward to working with him and helping to further develop his game.”

Mings was signed by the Cherries in 2015 from Ipswich for a reported fee of £8million.

Injury problems and lack of form limited him to just 22 appearances for the south coast club over the last four years.

He rediscovered his form at Aston Villa and they have been keen to sign him permanently as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

Mings signed a new long-term contract with Bournemouth in 2017 and reports earlier this week suggested they were wanting £25million for the player.

Negotiations have been ongoing during the summer and they have now struck an agreement over a price.
