Early Voting Numbers In Greenwich Higher Than Anticipated: Registrar

GREENWICH, CT — Early voting numbers in Greenwich were “higher than anticipated,” according to the town’s Republican Registrar of Voters Fred DeCaro.

New this year, early voting in Connecticut ran from Oct. 21 through Nov. 3.

According to DeCaro, 12,236 early votes were cast in Greenwich at Town Hall during that time, and the town’s live voter turnout tracker shows 3,516 absentee ballots returned as of Monday morning. There are 41,445 registered voters in Greenwich.

“We’re grateful to the poll workers who worked with very few breaks, and we’re grateful to the voters who were patient when sometimes there were lines,” DeCaro told Patch Monday.

Greenwich is seeking feedback on early voting through an online survey. DeCaro said respondents so far have given the town high marks, with a grade of about 5.77 on a scale of one to six.

“We were very happy in terms of how they thought the process was organized,” DeCaro added.

Polls on Election Day will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can use the Secretary of State’s website to find your polling place.

Voters who are in line by 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Connecticut also allows for Election Day registration at designated centers in each town. People must be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote using Election Day registration.

With the early voting numbers and absentee ballots, Greenwich currently has a voter turnout rate of 38 percent.

“We’ve traditionally had a consistent turnout of about 85 percent of our voters,” DeCaro said of presidential elections. “Given that close to 40 percent have voted, we look forward to seeing the other 45 percent or so [Tuesday].”

More than 624,000 Connecticut voters have already cast their ballots in Tuesday’s 2024 presidential election, joining nearly 76.5 million Americans who have cast mail-in or early in-person votes.

According to a Monday analysis by NBC News of data from election officials across the country, 42 percent of early votes in Connecticut were cast by Democrats, 23 percent were by Republicans and 35 percent were by people who haven’t declared a party.
