Initial round of decisions taken by LFP on 2019/20 season outcome; still to be validated by General Assembly & Board of Directors

The legislature of the French football club governing body, the LFP, this Thursday morning took the decision to formally end the 2019/20 season. It also decided on awarding final placement in the rankings of this campaign under the points per game mechanism.

These decisions still have to be voted through by the Board of Directors this afternoon and then confirmed by the General Assembly in early May.

However, if they hold, then PSG will be named Ligue 1 champions, with Marseille and Rennes earning Champions’ League places. Lille, Reims and Nice would sit in 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. The latter two sides would move straight to the Europa League if the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue finals do not play out. Amiens and Toulouse would be relegated and Lorient and Lens would be promoted, with FCL made Ligue 2 champions.

Something not successfully broached in this morning’s meeting was whether Ligue 2 would have 22 clubs in it or not.
