FAIRFIELD, CT — Wake-Cup-Coffee, the popular coffee shop that opened its first spot at the Fairfield Metro Train Station in 2020, opened its second Fairfield spot this week, right on the New York-bound platform at the Fairfield Train Station downtown.
Stanley George, the owner, told Patch that the opportunity to expand his business to a second Fairfield train station was enticing, and he hopes to be able to gain a portion of the couple of thousand daily commuters as customers.
“This week will be about getting to know the pace and the people over here,” George said, adding he has already seen some of his customers from the Metro Station at the downtown site.

Wake-Cup-Coffee replaces Rise & Shine, which had the platform concession for a number of years, but struggled when the number of commuters into New York dropped significantly when the pandemic hit.
Eileen Flora, director of the Fairfield Parking Authority, told Patch that Wake-Cup-Coffee was selected as the platform vendor after advertising that the space was available after Rise & Shine’s departure.

Unlike the Metro Station shop, which is about 2,700 square feet, the platform shop is only 220 square feet and does not offer any seating.
That’s OK, Flora said, because the clientele is looking to grab something quickly before boarding a train.
“The commuters and train riders welcome the convenience of the shop at the Fairfield Center Train Station,” Flora said.
George said that the two shops serve a lot of the same varieties of coffee and food, all of which is made at the larger Metro shop and brought over to the downtown location.
Specialties include bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches served on pretzel buns, pastries, muffins, and a hot Nutella and espresso drink.
If all goes well, George said, he plans to open a third Wake-Cup-Coffee in either Norwalk or New Haven.
He hasn’t found the right site yet, but he said it will almost certainly be near another train station.
