COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — First responders will conduct a “Mass Casualty Incident” drill next week in the Coachella Valley, during which the public can expect to see and hear sirens across the region.
The drill is planned for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 4 at Acrisure Arena (75702 Varner Road) and near local hospitals.
Personnel from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and others will participate in the drill. The goal is to “test emergency protocols/procedures and to practice operational responses of personnel and agencies during an emergency event,” according to the sheriff’s department.

All participating agencies will treat the drill as a full emergency. As a result, the public will likely see police and ambulance lights, and hear police/fire sirens near the arena and local hospitals, the sheriff’s department said.
During the exercise, the public is urged not to call 911 unless there is an emergency.
