RMC Sport report that 18-year-old French international and Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has told the club that he will not sign a contract extension, with his current deal expiring in June 2022.
As a result, SRFC may look to sell the player – Camavinga has told the Brittany side that he does not wish to extend because he wants to join PSG.
Extension talks between Rennes and Camavinga did run for several months, but the player made huge salary demands and a signing bonus that was considered as “exorbitant” by the Rennes board.
Camavinga wants to stay in France to continue his progression and PSG is where he wants to do it, keen on moving to the French capital this summer. Camavinga is one of PSG’s priorities this summer.
PSG President Al-Khelaifi is handling negotiations and has contacted Rennes President Nicolas Holveck to make his interest in the French teenager officially known. For the moment, Les Parisiens have not yet followed that up with a formal bid.
Rennes, despite the player having just 12 months remaining on his contract, informed PSG that they want €100m for Camavinga. Rennes feel this is a fair price because Camavinga is a future world class talent.
Clearly, they have set the early bar high as a means to negotiate – nobody in this pandemic is going to spend that amount of money. However, Rennes owner François Pinault, the 27th richest man in the world, is said to be personally monitoring the situation and as a point of principle may insist on receiving that sum this summer, especially with interest from England.
