Harlequins: Jack Walker re-commits while Mike Brown poised for Premiership return with Leicester Tigers

Harlequins have announced that hooker Jack Walker has extended his contract with the club while former Quins fullback Mike Brown is poised to return to the Premiership with Leicester Tigers.

Walker follows club captain Stephan Lewies in re-signing with the London club having joined the side from Bath ahead of the 2021/22 season.

He quickly established himself as the starting hooker for the Famous Quarters and earned a maiden England call up from Eddie Jones ahead of the tour of Australia last year.

Still uncapped, Walker has been recalled to the England squad ahead of the 2022 Six Nations.

Huge asset to the club

“It’s great to sign a new deal with Harlequins. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my first two seasons since starting with this team. Being in this club and squad has been nothing but a fantastic experience,” Walker said on the announcement of his re-signing.

“Playing in knockout rugby and receiving a call up to the national side have been highlights of my time with Harlequins so far, but this is a hugely enjoyable place to come in to work at every day.

“This is an exciting team to be a part of and I’m looking forward to what comes next.”

Harlequins Lineout and Defence Coach Jerry Flannery hailed the impact Walker has made since his arrival at the club.

“Jack continues to be a standout presence in the front-row and we’re delighted to have him re-sign,” Flannery said.

“His set-piece work is always reliable and he remains a huge asset to this club both on and off the field.

“Being selected for England is a testament to his hard work and dedication. At just 26 he has an incredibly exciting career ahead of him and we’re thrilled that he’s made the decision to continue it at Quins.”

Mike Brown’s Premiership return

Harlequins legend Mike Brown is poised to make his return to the Premiership with Leicester Tigers.

The 37-year-old was left without a club at the end of last season after his contract with Newcastle Falcons expired and has not played professional rugby since.

However, he has been on trial at Premiership holders Leicester Tigers, according to Sports Mail, and is likely to feature for the side before the end of the season.

Fullback Freddie Steward linked up with England on Monday ahead of the Six Nations, and Tigers‘ fullback depth will be further hit when Freddie Burns makes his move to the Highlanders next month.

The veteran fullback would provide Tigers’ interim head coach Richard Wigglesworth with a short-term solution in the position until the end of the season.
