Christophe Galtier says PSG lacked clinical edge against Benfica

Speaking following Paris Saint-Germain’s draw in the Champions League with Benfica, manager Christophe Galtier was not so pleased with the Parisian side’s lack of clinical edge which was so much more present at the start of the season. The PSG manager said the following, as transcribed by L’Équipe.

“This is a fair observation [that PSG weren’t clinical enough]. We are less flashy, brilliant, dangerous… Is it physical? I don’t think so. At the start of the season, we had a lot more vertical play, it was going much faster down the flanks or in the box. Every time we got the ball out, we added an extra touch, we went backwards. It’s an important area of work and one that leads to a global reflection on the first few months. We are in a period where it is less effective.”

“When you are PSG, you have to win, you have to be more dangerous. This match was not like the one in Lisbon where the teams created more. It was a match where defences took over from attacks, even if I think we were under less pressure. As we approached the last 30 metres, instead of accelerating, we slowed down the game, which allowed Benfica to get back into the game.”
