Nice considering move for Hervé Renard

L’Équipe report tonight that Nice are considering a move for Saudi Arabia manager Hervé Renard to take charge, with Lucien Favre having been dismissed earlier this month.

Didier Digard’s positive start to his interim reign – which included a 6-1 win – has meant that the club are not in a rush to name a successor to Favre. In any case, the board could be set to meet Renard’s representatives at the start of the week, while also reaching out to two other candidates including former Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco.

Renard did not necessarily have a return to France in mind – even if he does have a home in nearby Cannes – and recently extended his contract as Saudi Arabia manager. However, that deal does have a release clause, and Renard could be tempted by an ambitious INEOS project.

The Nice owners are convinced by the double AFCON winner’s profile – he speaks French and English, is at ease in front of the media, while his assistant Laurent Bonadéi was in charge of Les Aiglons’ reserve side between 2015 and 2019. Renard’s lack of top-level experience in club management – just a short stint at Lille in 2015 – is the only downside.
