A Tweet posted by Olympique Lyonnais’ president Jean-Michel Aulas has indicated that 19-year-old Rayan Cherki will stay with Les Gones, despite Paris-Saint-Germain interest. “If there is one thing on which we all agree – supporters, club, staff, and the players – it is that a talent such as Cherki will remain in Lyon,” the president noted.
Paris-Saint-Germain, who recently lost 30-year-old Pablo Sarabia to the Premier League’s Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, are in the market for an attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing. Lyon’s young talent, Cherki, was posed as a potential replacement, and one which PSG considered a top priority. The league leaders sent an offer for the French youth international last weekend.
But Jean-Michel Aulas, president of the Rhône club since 1987, has since quashed such rumours, underlining Cherki’s important role in Lyon’s future. Cherki will stay: he rose through the ranks of the youth sides at Lyon, and remains very much part of their project, Aulas said. Les Parisiens have shown previous interest in the man who has a goal and three assists in this season’s league campaign. Per Aulas, PSG will need to look elsewhere for further frontline fortification.
