Olympique Lyonnais are trying to hijack Cremonese’s efforts to sign out-of-favour AC Milan midfielder and Chelsea loanee Tiémoué Bakayoko (28) on loan, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.

Lyon reportedly opened talks to sign the one-time French international midfielder and have already tried to acquire his services three years ago. The former Monaco all-action midfielder signed for the West London outfit in 2017 in a five-year deal worth €40m following his outstanding performances with Les Monégasques, who won the Ligue 1 title and played the Champions League semi-finals that year.

Bakayoko failed to prove instrumental with the Blues and was loaned year in, year out to AC Milan, Monaco and Napoli. In 2021, Chelsea and Milan agreed on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy for the Frenchman, whose contract with the West London outfit was extended until 2024.

But frequent injuries and erratic defensive performances with the Rossoneri have considerably reduced the Frenchman’s game time, although he did won the Serie A title last year. But this season, he has not featured once with the Stefano Pioli-led side. Bakayoko might just be the defensive midfielder OL head coach Laurent Blanc has been asking for to the Lyon board. Time is running out now to thrash out a deal with Chelsea, with whom OL negotiated for the sale of prized right-back Malo Gusto (19).
