We are saddened to bring you the unfortunate news that pro wrestling legend Christopher Alan Pallies, better known the world over as King Kong Bundy, passed away Monday afternoon. He was 61-years-old.
Pallies was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey and was trained by Larry Sharpe at the World Famous Monster Factory, making his professional debut in 1981. In his early years he worked all over the country for different promoters, including the Von Erichs in World Class Championship Wrestling, as well as the AWA, NWA and Mid-South Wrestling.
Over time he would develop his signature look as the bald-headed super heavyweight, donning a black singlet and often utilizing a five-count instead of the traditional three-count in some matches, which further set him apart as a budding super-heavyweight star.
In 1985, Pallies made the jump to work for Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation, at first managed by the “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and later the late, great Bobby Heenan. He had several high profile feuds during his time with the company, including a match with Andre the Giant at Madison Square Garden, and perhaps his most famous match ever — a steel cage match against Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship, in the main event of WrestleMania II.
We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Christopher, who will forever be known as the great King Kong Bundy.
