Fans who assumed that this week’s Raw show would in uneventful since it was taped last week were proven wrong last night. During Monday Night Raw yesterday, Vince McMahon appeared dressed as Santa Claus to announce several events for fans to look forward to starting in 2019. First off, Vince announced that John Cena will be coming back on some upcoming Raw and SmackDown shows, and he also said that Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre will fight each other in a Steel Cage match during next week’s episode of Raw. However, McMahon had another huge announcement to make during the show. It turns out that WWE is planning on debuting some brand new championship gold at some point in the new year.

Vince revealed to the audience last night that tag team titles are on the way for the female wrestlers in WWE. A set of tag team belts for the women have been rumored throughout most of the year. McMahon did not specify if there will only be one set of titles or two different sets for both brands, but the previous rumor stated that the titles would be defended on both brands. Female WWE Superstars have been campaigning for the titles for months now, and there are plenty of teams in the women’s division eager to fight for the titles now. No details on when the championships will be presented or how the inaugural titleholders will be determined have been revealed yet, but get ready to see the brand new titles on television very soon.
Longtime WWE fans may be aware of the fact that this will not be the first time that the company has introduced tag team belts for their female athletes. The original WWF Women’s Tag Team Championships debuted back in 1983 and lasted until 1989, and they were held by the likes of the Jumping Bomb Angels and the Glamour Girls. The titles have been defunct ever since then, but thanks to the encouragement to resurrect the championships from fans and WWE roster members alike, this will serve as the next step in the Women’s Evolution. Between Bayley & Sasha Banks, Nia Jax & Tamina, The IIconics, The Riott Squad, or even possible returning teams like The Bella Twins or Trish Stratus & Lita, it will be intriguing to see which team becomes the inaugural champions.
