January transfer window 2020: When does it open and close? Dates for when Premier League teams can spend this winter

The January transfer window is upon us as the Premier League’s teams get set for some mid-season spending.

The 2019 summer market saw the top-flight’s clubs splash the cash with a host of big-money deals done.

While the winter window tends to be a lot quieter, the thrilling first-half of the campaign could force sides to get the cheque books out again.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton have all endured difficult seasons and look in need of reinforcements.

The relegation-threatened teams could spend as they look to beat the drop while Liverpool’s incredible start may see title-challengers Leicester and Manchester City dip into the market too.

So with 2020 rapidly approaching, what are the details for the January transfer window?

January transfer window: Opening dates

Wednesday, January 1: England

January 1: France, Germany and China

January 2: Italy and Spain

January 3: Portugal

January 22: Russia

January transfer window: Closure dates

Friday, January 31: England – Premier League window closes at 11pm

February 27: China


Players signed on January 1 or 2 will not be eligible to play in Matchweek 21.

Clubs will be able to submit ‘Deal Sheets’ from 9pm to 11pm on January 31 to get their deals done past the deadline.

Once the transfer window is shut, clubs must submit their new 25-man squad lists for the rest of the campaign by 2pm on Wednesday, February 5.
