Bestseller pledges to “give-a-day”

Danish retailer Bestseller is pledging to donate all of its global
sales to a range of charities on April 10, as part of its Give-a-Day
campaign to mark its 40th birthday.

The company, which includes womenswear labels Vero Moda and Vila,
menswear labels Selected Homme and Jack & Jones and childrenswear label
Name It, has stated that it will donate an amount equalling the net
turnover of all Bestseller-owned and partner-owned retail stores and that
all Bestseller-owned online shops plus the net turnover over of its b2b
sales on April 10.

It has selected a range of charities, both national to each country and
international, with 50 percent of each country’s net turnover being donated
to charity causes that take place on a global seller, with Bestseller
selecting Save the Children, Unicef and Gain as its global partners. In
addition to supporting global projects run by the Bestseller Fund,
including a scheme called ‘Light Up Villages in East Africa’, which aims to
provide more than 150,000 people in rural villages with solar power.

For the UK, the remaining 50 percent will be donated to Crisis, the
charity dedicated to helping those whose lives are destroyed by
homelessness.

Commenting on the charity initiative, Bestseller corporate
sustainability and communications director Morgens Werge, said: “At
Bestseller, we are privileged to be able to make a positive difference for
others and the world around us. Therefore, we have decided to give
something back to the communities where our customers have helped us grow.

“Give-A-Day is about giving something back to the communities where we
have built our success and to help people in need. We want to make our
colleagues proud and to raise awareness about the charity causes we support
both locally and globally.”

Other local charities to be supported include Spanish Association
Against Cancer, Belarusian childrens hospice, Food Banks Canada, SOS
Children’s Villages in Germany, the Icelandic Cancer Society, and The
Children’s Medical & Research Foundation of Ireland.

It is expected that Bestseller, which was established in Denmark in
1975 and currently represents over 20 brands in the menswear, womenswear
and childrenswear sectors, will donate several millions Euros to charity on
April 10.
