Liverpool vs Arsenal commentary: Live action and confirmed team news for Carabao Cup classic on talkSPORT 2

There are a lot of angry voices among the Arsenal faithful right now and those jeers could turn to tears on Wednesday evening.

A 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace displeased their fan base, while captain Granit Xhaka’s decision to tell them to ‘f*** off’ has dominated headlines this week.

There have been calls for him to apologise from former players, while his manager, Unai Emery, acknowledged the need to say sorry.

“Yes [he should apologise]. We make mistakes, we need to apologise and we suggested for him to do that.

“He feels inside, very deep. It’s normal as a human. Every player needs the supporters’ support.”

What is the team news?

For Liverpool, 20-year-old goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher starts.

“In this League Cup, it is Caoimhin’s competition,” coach Pepijn Lijnders explained. “As I said before the MK Dons game, with youth development, with these moments when they are in between the U23s and the first team, consistency is very important.”

Xherdan Shaqiri is still injured, as is Joel Matip and though Mohamed Salah’s ankle injury is nothing serious, he has been rested.

Sixteen-year-old Harvey Elliot starts too, becoming the youngest Liverpool player ever to play a competitive match at Anfield.

Xhaka has been left out of the Arsenal squad, but Mesut Ozil has starts after being left out for the last six games.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, David Luiz and Calum Chambers haven’t made the trip to Merseyside.

Reiss Nelson continues to be unavailable with the knee ligament injury he sustained at the start of the month.
