Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Mateo Mejia from Real Zaragoza, according to reports.
The 16-year-old attracted the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs with his spectacular form at the start of last season.
According to Spanish newspaper El Periodico de Aragon, the Red Devils have sealed a £130,000 deal for the teen.
An insider at the club claims Mejia has impressed those at Carrington having arrived in July. The youngster is reportedly being put through his paces with United’s Under-18 side.
Mejia was free to leave the Spanish side after failing to agree terms on a professional contract. Arsenal, Real Madrid and Valencia were also said to be keen.
However, he has decided to move to United as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s overhaul of the current squad.
They signed 16-year-old Monaco prospect Hannibal Mejbri amid competition from other big clubs in August.
He was convinced to sign by France Under 16 team-mate Noah Emergan, who joined from Amiens in February as the club look to build their long-term future.
Mejia scored a remarkable 60 goals last season for Zaragoza and is likely to replace outgoing academy graduate Mipo Odubeko.
