Mike Ashley met with two Mexican businessmen about the possibility of taking over Newcastle United at a meeting in London, according to reports.
The Sports Direct owner and business tycoon has tried to find a suitable buyer for the Magpies for some time, with no offers meeting his lofty valuations.
According to The Athletic, Ashley held a meeting in London last week to explore the possibility of a deal being completed.
However, it is said he came across as ‘rude’ and ultimately negotiations hit a dead end.
The Mexican buyers were intrigued by the club and held a genuine interest in buying it after watching the film Goal! – the story of how a Mexican immigrant leaves his job as a gardener in Los Angeles to go for a trial at St James’ Park.

This is the second time Mexican-based owners have held an interest in the club, although it is unclear if these were the same party.
The Orlegi Group, who own Mexican club Santos Laguna and are spearheaded by Alejandro Iraragorri, were considering Newcastle as a potential investment.
Ashley is demanding £300 million for the club, but is yet to receive a concrete offer.
After appointing Steve Bruce in the summer, the club have struggled on the pitch. They are now sitting in the relegation zone with just two wins from nine matches.
