Frank Lampard has revealed why N’Golo Kante was missing from the Chelsea squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton.
The French midfielder surprisingly wasn’t even named on the bench for the 3pm Stamford Bridge encounter, which is LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE on talkSPORT 2.
And manager Lampard has confirmed Kante was ruled out of the match with a last-minute hamstring injury, while Kurt Zouma is also out with sickness.
It’s another injury blow for Kante, who has already missed four games this season with an ankle injury.
He only make his return in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, playing 90 minutes and scoring a fine consolation goal, but is already back on the sidelines with another problem.
The club have not yet stated how bad his injury is, although the fact they have branded it merely a ‘niggle’ suggests it is not serious.

Without the World Cup winner, Jorginho starts at the base of Chelsea’s midfield, with Ross Barkley and Mason Mount, confirmed fit enough to play after doubts over his fitness, operating in more attacking roles.
Lampard will be hoping to guide his team back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats at home last week, losing to Valencia in the Champions League and Liverpool in the Premier League.
However, a 7-1 victory over Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday would’ve done much to lift the mood, especially with the return of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James from injury.
Brighton, meanwhile, have not won a league match since their victory over Watford on the opening day of the season.
