Man City star Kevin De Bruyne promises to join Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht when he’s ‘finished’ at the Etihad

Kevin De Bruyne has admitted he would like to join former team-mate Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht when he leaves Manchester City.

The two men shared the Etihad Stadium pitch for four years, and also shone playing together on the international stage for Belgium.

In their four seasons at City, the duo won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and three League Cups before Kompany returned to his boyhood club earlier this summer.

De Bruyne has four years left on his current City deal having joined from Wolfsburg in 2015, and he’s told Kompany to ‘keep a place in his team’ for him.

“I hope his [Kompany’s] career will be just as amazing at Anderlecht as it was at City,” De Bruyne told The Sun.

“I’ve told him to keep a place in his team for me in a year, or seven, when I’m finished here.

“If he does do that for me I will already have my next destination lined up; my next job.

“I will definitely miss him being around City.”

De Bruyne confirmed Kompany played a key role in his move to the Etihad.

“At the time City were trying to sign me from Wolfsburg and Vinny was pushing for me to move to Manchester to play alongside him,” he continued.

“He would constantly ask me when I was coming. He would say, ‘you need to come’, constantly encouraging me to join City.”

City are set to honour their former captain on Wednesday as he returns to the Etihad for a testimonial.

All profits made from ticket sales will be donated to Tackle4MCR, a charity set up by Kompany to help the homeless in Manchester.
