Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota has admitted he’d rather stick with current team-mate Conor Coady than have Harry Maguire at Molinuex.
Wolves take on Manchester United on Monday night with the two English centre-backs battling each other.
Maguire joined the Red Devils for a huge £80million this summer after impressing for Hull City and Leicester in the Premier League.
The fee – a world record for a defender – stunned some players, pundits and fans.
Coady, meanwhile, has risen to the top with his current side having joined them in 2015, going from the Championship to Europa League football, while he’s also been on the cusp of an international call-up.
But when asked if he would swap Maguire for Coady or any of the other Wolves defenders, Jota said: “That is some question! I think Harry Maguire has a lot of quality but I know the players that we have in our team and I trust them.”
And when it comes to the enormous sum of spent on Maguire, Jota admitted transfer fees may be out of control but there is not much players can do about it.
He added: “It (the £80m fee) is hard to explain. The market is unreal now in my opinion. But nothing to do with me, it is to do with the clubs and it is the moment we are living. We just have to respect that amount.”
The Portuguese forward is also well aware Monday’s opponents are now more formidable than last year.
Wolves won two of their three encounters with Man United in 2018/19 with Jota scoring in both the victories but now they have added Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Maguire to their ranks it is set to be much tougher.
He said:”It’s a new season. Solskjaer has had more time to work with his players, he’s made his own changes.
“In the transfer market they’ve tried to improve their team so we know it’s going to be very hard for us. We have to understand that we will face a very big team.”
