Manchester United transfer news: Sporting chiefs warn Red Devils they will not accept low offer for Bruno Fernandes

Sporting president Frederico Varandas has told Manchester United they will have to stump up more than £56million to sign Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add at least two midfielders to his squad before the season starts, with Fernandes and Newcastle ace Sean Longstaff mooted as his desired targets.

The Norwegian has insisted he will not pay over the odds for his targets – however, Leicester are playing hardball over the fee for Harry Maguire and Newcastle chiefs have placed a £50m price tag on Longstaff’s head.

Now, Sporting chiefs have warned United they will not accept any offers below their valuation of the playmaker.

“I don’t know if there are many or if there are few [interested clubs],” Varandas told RTP. “What I know, a lot has been spoken of values, coming to the press, €55m, €62m… for that he doesn’t leave, for sure.”

“If Bruno Fernandes leaves, players with quality will come. But if Bruno leaves.”

Solskjaer is still keen to settle the future of French midfielder Paul Pogba, with the World Cup winner admitting he is keen for a new challenge last month.

LaLiga giants Real Madrid are desperate to sign Pogba, but United have demanded £170m for the midfielder.
