Gareth Bale would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham and would make a massive difference for Mauricio Pochettino’s side next season, former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp believes.
The Welshman’s future at the Bernebeu has been in doubt ever since the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager.
The winger, 30, has failed to win over the Los Blancos support in his six-year stint with the club, despite playing in an instrumental role in helping them win four European Cups and a LaLiga title.
He was booed off on multiple occasions by his own supporters throughout last season, while former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon launched a scathing attack on Bale to accuse him of ‘not living up to expectations’ since his 2013 arrival from Tottenham for a then world-record fee.
And according to Marca, Tottenham are now considering a stunning move for their former star, with the Spanish publication reporting that Spurs are willing to pay between £45million and £54million to bring him back to north London.
The reported deal would be even better for Tottenham as they only want to pay half Bale’s current wage, which means Real would have to cover his salary for the next three seasons as well.

But Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has dismissed the story as fabricated nonsense, telling talkSPORT, ‘I don’t comment on rubbish’.
Nonetheless, Redknapp, who coached Bale for four years at White Hart Lane, insists signing the Wales superstar would be fantastic for Tottenham – especially if chairman Daniel Levy can work his transfer magic to secure a cut-price deal for the forward.
“I don’t know if there’s any truth in the rumour if Jonathon Barnett’s denied it – but I think it would be a great move for Tottenham,” Redknapp told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“It seems a typical Daniel [Levy] deal, [with Real Madrid] paying half the wages. When Daniel’s got you in a corner he’s not going to let you out, and so he’s going to go in and make a very low offer – which is go in with half his wages and a third of the offer they paid for him.

“I think he’d be a fantastic signing, he’s an amazing talent and could come back and push higher next year and make a massive difference.”
Bale played the full 90 minutes in just nine matches last campaign but still managed to score 14 goals in 41 appearances.
And Redknapp has dismissed the notion that he has failed to live up to his price tag in the Spanish capital.
He continued: “When you look at some of his goals: a Champions League winning goal, some of the amazing goals against Barcelona, the overhead kick in the final…
“I mean, he’s a special talent there’s no doubt about that.
“I heard rumours of people saying I was going to loan him out [at Tottenham]. Never in a million years.
“I’d love to see him come back to England. I know he’s earning a fortune there and he won’t walk away from that.
“But whoever takes him, if they pay half his wages Real Madrid will have to pay the other half – that’s for sure.”
