Juan Mata has signed a new contract, Manchester United have confirmed.
The 31-year-old’s current deal was scheduled to expire on 1 July, but the Premier League side have revealed he will remain at Old Trafford until 2021.

There is also the option to extend his stay by a further year in news that will delight manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was keen to keep the midfielder.
“It is a real honour to continue to represent this amazing club and our incredible fans,” Mata told manutd.com.
“I have been at Manchester United for five years and I am proud to call Old Trafford my home.
“I am looking forward to working with Ole and his fantastic coaching staff; the vision that they have for the club is truly exciting and I am so happy that I will be a part of that.”
United’s no.8 left Chelsea in 2014 and has scored 45 goals in 218 games for the 20-time champions.
“Juan is the ultimate professional and one of the most intelligent players I have worked with,” Solskjaer said.
“He is a great example to our younger players in his approach. He understands what it means to be a Manchester United player and has embraced everything about this great club.
“As well as everything he brings on the pitch, we have some fantastic young players here and I know that Juan’s vast experience will help them to reach their potential over the coming seasons. I am delighted that he has signed a new contract, as I know that his talent and mentality will be invaluable to the squad.”
Last season he started 16 Premier League games, scoring three goals and creating two in what was a disappointing season for all associated with the club.
The club finished sixth and, after a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield to end any hope of qualifying for the Champions League, Mata summed up the mood with a seven-word blog post.
“You deserve better. No more words needed,” is all he wrote.
Solskjaer, though, has got to work on rebuilding the squad early and United have already signed Daniel James from Swansea.
They are also believed to be interested in Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as well as Declan Rice and Issa Diop.
